Strap in – a pop-up drive-in cinema is cruising into Brisbane

Strap in – a pop-up drive-in cinema is cruising into Brisbane

With local cinemas closed for the time being, our usual destination for weekend entertainment has been sorely missed. Thankfully for all of the dedicated cinema goers, Brisbane company Get Parked has found a way to go back to the theatres whilst maintaining social distancing – the drive-in movies. Start tuning your radio, as the Park-In Pictures is coming to a carpark near you ...

Movie lovers, rejoice! Get Parked has launched the Park-In Pictures – a pop-up drive-in cinema in a vacant carpark in Hendra, which is able to accommodate 75 cars per screening with two sessions every Friday and Saturday night. The Park-In Pictures was born after the folks behind Get Parked realised they could put their many vacant parking lots to good use as well as retain staff and entertain bored Brisbane locals at the same time. To ensure a safe movie-going experience, the drive-in theatre has a number of measures in place including plenty of hand sanitiser before entry, snack delivery and maintaining a strict distance between parked vehicles.

The Park-In Pictures will boast a larger-than-life ten-metre-wide and six-metre-high inflatable screen that will showcase a range of movies from early 2020, which had limited cinema runs due to cinema closures. So, what’s playing? There’s a family-friendly screening of My Spy, as well as Guy Ritchie’s crime caper The Gentlemen and the chick flick with a twist, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey. For those whose movie experience is incomplete without munching on a popcorn and Malteasers concoction, the drive-in theatre also has a fully-stocked candy bar which has popcorn, lollies, ice-cream, soft drinks, plus some old-school diner favourites like hot dogs, stacked burgers and hot chips – which are all conveniently delivered to your parked car.

Tickets to the Park-In Pictures start at $33 per vehicle. Buckle up and grab yours at the online box office here.
