Get keen to go green – Parks Alive is back with a bunch of eco-friendly fun

When you live in a city as naturally beautiful as Brisbane, it can become commonplace to take it for granted. As one of our city’s brightest gems, the Roma Street Parkland is one such place that you’ve probably enjoyed without putting much thought into how much work goes into keeping it so darn lush. Well, folks, if you’ve ever picnicked, relaxed, napped or strolled through the grounds, this is your chance to get a peek behind the curtain and uncover some of the park’s coolest secrets. Running for two jam-packed days on August 4–5, Parks Alive returns for its fifth year to turn Roma Street Parkland into a hive of activity celebrating all things green.

Whether you’re a horticultural expert or a bit of an eco-rookie, Parks Alive has something for every level of green enthusiasm. The festival is designed to showcase our stunning Roma Street Parkland as well as impart practical wisdom about living a more sustainable life, which is a pretty perfect match considering Brisbane’s reputation as a seriously green city. A huge range of gardening, design and sustainability-focused activities will be the focus of the weekend – think workshops, demonstrations, guided tours, live tunes and interactive classes to keep the little ones occupied.

The Parks Alive main stage is the place to go for expert advice from both local and national speakers, with a line-up including the likes of Costa Georgiadis, Jerry Coleby-Williams and Indira Naidoo, to name a few. Lifestyle and wellness experts will be on hand presenting yoga classes and demonstrations all about medicinal plants, permaculture, fermentation and the power of outdoor play. Serial plant-killers can swing by the festival’s Plant Clinic to pick up tips on gardening, recycle your used coffee cup or even trade it for a free seedling. Meanwhile, the Lifestyle Market will be running both days with a range of wholesome handmade wares so you can continue your sustainable journey. You certainty won’t be going hungry on the day, with a range of Brisbane’s best eateries serving up delicious sustainable fare – you can catch MooFree Burgers, Happy Soul Bowl, The Curious Caravan and more on-site to satiate those hunger pangs. Tip – bring a used coffee cup along to the Plant Clinic and trade it for a free seedling.

Ready to live the lush life? Parks Alive is totally free to attend and is running on the August 4–5 weekend – to see the full program, head to the website.
