While many of us have been enjoying art and inspiration online at #homewithQAGOMA, we’re just a tad excited (to say the least) that Brisbane’s home of everything art-related, QAGOMA, is opening its doors again. Following the easing of stage two restrictions which allows galleries and museums to reopen, The Queensland Art Gallery will reopen to the public on Monday June 22. We will have to practise a tiny bit more patience, however, as there will be a little bit more of a wait for The Gallery of Modern Art, which will reopen on Friday August 7. In order to reopen and to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing for visitors, staff and volunteers, The Queensland Art Gallery is working with Queensland Health to finalise a site-specific COVID Safe Plan. There will be a limit on the number of people in the Gallery to ensure safe distancing, an increased frequency of cleaning, hand-washing and sanitiser facilities, and there will also be distance markers for queuing.

So what’s on, you ask? From Monday June 22, Mavis Ngallametta: Show Me the Way to Go Home, the stunning major retrospective of the work of the prominent Indigenous artist will be catching the eyes of gallery visitors at at The Queensland Art Gallery. Errant Objects on the QAG Watermall, including Ai Weiwei’s towering crystal light installation, Boomerang 2006 will also be on display for your pretty peepers. The gallery’s much-adored Indigenous, Australian and International Collection gallery displays will be open whilst another exhibition you can look forward to is The Motorcycle: Design, Art, Desire, which will zoom into GOMA in November. The QAG store will be welcoming visitors with open arms again, so you can pick up a gift or two for those belated birthdays that you missed out on during isolation. If you get a little peckish whilst walking around, the QAG Cafe will be open for takeaway and limited seating, with those who dine in required to provide contact details in line with the Government requirement for contact tracing.

Although GOMA’s doors remains closed for just a little longer, GOMA Store is open 10:00 am to 4:00 pm daily (the online store also remains open), and GOMA Bistro Pop-Up Providore is open 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Whilst QAGOMA returns to normal operations, the creative folk at the gallery will continue to inspire through Instagram, or make tracks to the QAGOMA website for the latest #homewithQAGOMA highlights.
