The Queensland Music Festival is a biennial affair that has seen some of Australia’s most revered musicians, composers and directors come on board to create a truly all-inclusive event. This year’s Artistic Director is no other than the incomparable Katie Noonan – the george frontwoman joins fellow directorial alum James Morrison, Deborah Conway and Paul Grabowsky in curating the state-wide celebration. Katie has collaborated with local, national and international talent to bring together this year’s festival, which will showcase more than 100 performances in 45 towns, cities and regions across the state over three weeks. The whole line-up of the Queensland Music Festival is super-stacked and seriously impressive, so we’ve taken the liberty to pick out a few of our highlights from the program. Songs That Made Me shines a light on emerging female talent as well as some of our faves (hello Deborah Conway, Clare Bowditch and Hannah Macklin), while 16 Lovers Lane utilises some of the country’s brightest stars to celebrate beloved Brisbane band The Go-Betweens. Hang with QYO blends classical music with a fresh and contemporary twist, Immersion sees a series of intimate and acoustic shows going down in a hotel room at The Johnson, plus Mission Songs reveals the Australian Indigenous songs that reflect life on missions in the 20th century.
