The huge announcement of the Queensland Theatre 2020 season is already generating a worthy buzz, with Boy Swallows Universe joining a stellar list of live performances scheduled for next year. Adopted Queensland playwright David Williamson will lead the run of shows in February with the comedy Emerald City, followed by Triple X, Othello, The Holidays, The Children, Boy Swallows Universe, Prima Facie and Phaedra. 50 per cent of these shows are brand new stories, world-first premieres for audiences of Queensland Theatre next year.
That’s not the only reason why Queensland Theatre’s new season will bring audiences to their feet. In 2020, Australia’s third-largest theatre company will celebrate a mammoth milestone – half a century of sharing stage stories. It will also be the final season under the directorship of Sam Strong, who has overseen record-breaking ticket sales and numerous critically acclaimed productions in his four years as Artistic Director for the company.
