Designed for teens aged 13–18, this live-streamed journaling and zine workshop will see designer, stylist, artist and all-round superstar Rachel Burke teach a few tricks of the trade. Known for her vibrant and wild tinsel creations – worn by famous faces like Miley Cyrus, Drew Barrymore, Kesha and Mindy Kaling, just to name a few – Rachel’s style and artistic prowess is one-of-a-kind, so there really is no better person to give some creative tips and inspo when it comes to documenting day-to-day experiences through art. Taking fellow journalers through a step-by-step tutorial, Rachel will showcase how to create a dazzling diary from scratch and will help you get started not only with putting pen to paper, but making it look pretty fabulous too.
All that is needed for the workshop is some A4 paper (can be scrap, plain, lined, cardboard or coloured) for drawing on, magazines or books (these will be cut up and added to the zines), a glue stick, coloured pens, textas or crayons, a sewing needle and cotton. To take your diary decorating to the next level, you can also make use of any preferred embellishments like stickers, stamps, sequins, gems and ribbon.
Are you ready to draw, collage and get creative to your heart’s content? QAGOMA’s Teens Workshop: Bad Art Zines will run on Thursday July 9 from 6:00–7:00 pm. Registration is free, so if you (or your teen) is interested, pop over to the QAGOMA website to secure your spot. Your diary will be looking cute and colourful in no time!
