Thrift finds and sustainable scores abound at this year’s Revive

Thrift finds and sustainable scores abound at this year’s Revive

We've all been victims of the fast fashion cycle - that dangerous ritual of constant consumption, whereby we think we need to buy the latest item on the retail rack every other week. And it's not just our finances that feel the sting from this - when we get sick of those over-worn threads, they tend to get discarded and, eventually, end up in landfill. Thankfully, those interested in breaking the cycle and finding redemption for their fast-fashion crimes are invited to atone at the fourth-annual pop-up Revive Second-Hand Fashion Festival

Brought to the shores of South Bank by the Brisbane City Council, Revive is a one-size-fits-all event. Whether you’re already a frugal fashion forager, keen to up your fashion sustainability knowledge, or just want new wardrobe items at genuine 1970s prices (and styles), then come along to this fashion festival. As done in previous years, Revive will bring together local charities, retailers, crafters and second-hand clothing vendors from far and wide for this melting pot of fashion fun – so you can shop up a guilt-free storm while choosing from seasoned sustainable curators.

In between thrift scores, attendees can also get involved in a range of fashion-focused programs, plus a bunch of markets, runway shows and styling sessions. This includes a special presentation from Instagram stylist Rachel Burke, who will be gracing the Cultural Forecourt with her tinsel-clad presence to deliver her workshop entitled ‘Old to Bold’. Participants will be inducted into the up-styling underworld and shown how to transform ordinary fashion accessories with pom poms, tinsel, and whatever else takes their shining. The day’s excitable buzz doesn’t end there, with live music and food trucks keeping waistlines satisfied and festival-goers entertained.

Want the chance to breathe new life into pre-loved threads while upping your sustainability scorecard? Don’t miss Revive at the South Bank Cultural Forecourt on Saturday August 17.
