Rome may not have been built in a day, but there are certain elements that we can replicate pretty well here in Brisbane. Two institutions that know a thing or two about the Italian way of life – Salt Meats Cheese and Gelato Messina – have joined forces to bring a little slice of Roman style to West End. Taking up residence in the lush Laneway WV at West Village, this exclusive joint pop-up is headed our way from Tuesday July 3 to give us all a taste of the Euro life. Bellissimo!

You heard it right – the dreamy foodie duo of Salt Meats Cheese and Gelato Messina will be popping up in the cobblestoned Laneway WV to satisfy all manner of Italian cravings. Salt Meats Cheese will lure you in with the scent of freshly ground coffee from 7:00 am, complemented by a morning offering that includes breakfast bruschetta (yes please). Lunch and dinner are also more than catered for – think wood-fired pizzas, cheese-wheel pasta, crispy porchetta and loads more. Lush greenery, twinkling fairy lights and live music will set the scene for evenings, where you can quench your thirst with custom concoctions from the boutique container bar manned by Sydney mix-masters Archie Rose.

When the sun goes down, Gelato Messina will swoop in to satiate your sweet tooth with its range of mind-boggling desserts. Sip on a signature hot chocolate or tackle the Bombe Choc Alaska made rich with dulce de leche gelato and topped with toasted marshmallow – you can’t go wrong, really. Fans of miniatures will be delighted to note that Gelato Messina’s custom-made mini gelato cakes are making an appearance – sample the likes of Goin’ Round The Twist, Dr Evil’s Magic Mushroom and Cocoa Peaks. As if that wasn’t enough, you can skip across the border to France with some delicate pastries from Montrachet. These dessert mavericks will only be hanging around for the month of July, so be sure to swing by before they disappear.

Keen to try a taste of Italy without busting out your passport? The Salt Meats Cheese x Gelato Messina pop-up is taking over Laneway WV from Tuesday July 3 until the end of September – for more details, head to our Events Guide.
