Real snow, baby yoga and picturesque picnics – South Bank Parklands has transformed into a fun-filled winter wonderland

Panoramic city views, lots of space to play and some of Brisbane's best dining destinations – South Bank Parklands is Brisbane's haven for family-friendly fun. The riverfront locale is going all out this month, with more than a few entertaining events to keep you occupied. With a magical snow-covered playground, yoga for bubs and tantalising takeaway eats, South Bank Parklands is the picture-perfect place to spend some quality time with family and friends this winter.

If you are stuck on where to take the family this weekend, South Bank Parklands has plenty of exciting events up its sleeve. The precinct is kicking off its winter activities by transforming into a snowy wonderland as part of the much-anticipated return of the Snow4Kids festival, running every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until August 30. Round up the rug rats and dress warm (we suggest gloves and gumboots) as this frosty function boasts plenty of opportunities for chilly fun – including making snowmen out of real snow! To make sure you and your family are as safe as possible, the Snow4Kids crew have created individual snow play zones for each family. There are 20 zones with benches surrounding the snow garden, with each zone getting its own personal snow-play area to ensure everyone is socially distanced. Interested in this icy extravaganza? Grab your tickets here. If that’s not enough family-friendly fun, Thursdays are also taken care of thanks to Kids Collective at South Bank Parklands. The delightful workshops, which are suitable for tots up to five years, are set to entertain little ones with a range of educational and interactive activities – think musical play, storytelling and even baby yoga. These free workshops run in 30–45 minute sessions, taking place at 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 11:00 am and 12:00 pm, and you can pre-register here.

For those who want to experience the lush surrounds of South Bank Parklands and sunshine-filled winter weather, the precinct offers some great picnic spots to take advantage of. From city skyline views at River Quay Green, Riverside Green and Picnic Island Green or the shade-filled serene spots of Rainforest Green, Liana Lounge and Little Stanley Street Lawns, there are plenty of grassy settings to choose from. Pack a picnic rug and tuck into some flavoursome fare from the world-class restaurants that line the river at South Bank – for eats to enjoy on the lawn grab a gourmet picnic hamper from French brasserie Aquitaine filled with house-made bread, olives and cheese, or an Italian picnic hamper from Popolo, which can be delivered with pizza and wine (yes, please). If you’re craving sensational seafood eats, River Quay Fish’s takeaway menu includes fresh oysters, coconut-crumbed prawns and fish tacos that are sure to satisfy. If you have a big group to feed, order a riverside grazing hamper from The Jetty (which can be paired with boozy bolt-ons) packed with mouth-watering Moreton Bay bug rolls, crispy calamari and spiced sweetcorn fritters topped with chimichurri. Then all you have to do is relax, play a lawn game or two and take in the magical views by the riverside.
