Sugar Spin: you, me, art and everything is an all-in visual feast that features everything from brand-new immersive works to large scale favourites that lucky people may have seen before. Beneath the surface, the exhibition explores the often complex connections between mankind and the natural world we inhabit. Five distinctive chapters – sweetmelt, blackwater, treasure, cosmos and soaring – all play a part in the story. This journey through the various spaces of GOMA is dramatic and thrilling, with many exhibits inviting you to break free of purely spectating and to participate in the madness.
Two of the new works that have garnered a lot of hype are Nervescape, a brightly coloured landscape of synthetic hair by Icelandic-born artist Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir (also known as Shoplifter), and the spectacular Heard by American sculptor and performance artist Nick Cave – think vibrant sculptural horses brought to life by dancers. Carsten Höller‘s beloved Left/Right Slide returns to shoot visitors from the top to the bottom of GOMA, which is always a hit. Other wonders include Ron Mueck‘s oversized In bed, Olafur Eliasson‘s interactive installation of seemingly endless white Lego pieces The cubic structural evolution project and Céleste Boursier-Mougenot‘s musical installation of live finches from here to ear (v.13).
Sugar Spin is free to view – how sweet! This exhibition will be running from December 3, 2016 through until April 17, 2017.
