Chill out and cool down at GOMA’s Summer Up Late

GOMA’s Up Late events need no introduction – if you’ve got yourself a ticket, you know you’re in for a good time. Next Friday January 19 the good times will be rolling in spades, when the Gallery hosts a special one-off Summer Up Late, featuring live music, sensory tours and so much more.

Kicking yourself that you still haven’t made it to see Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow or Gerhard Richter: The Life of Images? You should be! Summer Up Late will allow you to witness the beauty of both exhibitions after hours, plus embark on a sensory tour and listen to some ethereal tunes with a cool drink in hand. The festivities kick off at 5:30 pm, with DJ Black Amex spinning a killer mix of disco, house, funk and soul beats. Once you’ve had yourself a boogie (and a cheeky glass or two of sparking), sharpen your sensory powers at 6:30 pm, when academic, writer, wellbeing consultant and The School of Life faculty member Dr Nadine Cameron leads a sensory tour. Drawing on the works featured within the Kusama and Richter exhibitions, you’ll be challenged to consider each of the senses from sociological, psychological and neuroscientific perspectives.

At 7:30 pm independent Sydney-based producer and songwriter Lupa J will take to the River Room stage, wooing the audience with her smooth vocals layered over moody electronic beats. Acclaimed Michigan-born Berlin-based electronic producer and performer Laurel Halo will be performing from 8:40 pm, filling the gallery space with her ambient and genre-defying tracks. Plus if you just can’t get enough of GOMA’s major summer exhibitions, both will be open until 9:45 pm at Summer Up Late.

Tickets for Summer Up Late are on sale now, which include entry to Gerhard Richter: The Life of Images and Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow. Head to our Event Guide for full details. Feeling lucky? The Weekend Edition is giving away eight double passes to Summer Up Late at GOMA – jump over to our Win page to enter!
