If you lived through the 90s, chances are you’re familiar with The Bodyguard – it burst onto our screens in 1992 to bring us Whitney Houston’s acting debut and one of the most karaoke-worthy songs in the history of the universe. The story of former Secret Service agent turned-bodyguard Frank Farmer and the object of his protection Rachel Marron was a worldwide phenom, making audiences swoon and gasp in equal measure. The narrative and soundtrack pretty much cemented the fact that it would be an absolute hit if it were to be taken to the stage, so that’s exactly what producers Michael Harrison, David Ian and John Frost did.
The Bodyguard has been slaying it since its debut in London’s West End back in 2012, garnering a heap of critical praise and a swag of awards to boot. The stage adaptation features all of the hits from the movie plus some bonus tunes from Whitney Houston’s catalogue that did not appear in the original film. Leading the Australian cast of The Bodyguard is Australian Idol alumni Paulini as Rachel Marron, with Kip Gamblin taking on the role of Frank Farmer, Prinnie Stevens as Nicki Marron and Emily Williams as the alternate Rachel Marron.
