Embark on a food-filled Sunny Coast getaway with The Curated (side) Plate

In our humble opinion, it is not love that makes the world go round, but food. Like a drug, it pulls us from plate to plate, across the countryside, down dark alleys and into new environments as we hunt for the next flavour high. If, like us, food is your love language, then we can almost guarantee that you'll reach a new level of taste nirvana at the Sunshine Coast's latest festival, The Curated (side) Plate. Hosted over ten days from July 29 until August 7, The Curated (side) Plate promises a 2022-sized serving of local produce, fresh seafood and curated taste experiences against the backdrop of the Sunshine Coast's sprawling coastlines and rolling hinterland hills. Tuck that napkin into your collar, folks, things are about to get tasty ...

The Curated Plate made its debut in 2019 however, like many things pure and good in this world, it was forced to skip 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. Luckily for us, the Sunny Coast isn’t afraid to toot its own horn when it comes to spine-tingling taste experiences, and the flavour-filled festival is back in 2022. This year’s program is packed with more than 80 events spread from Caloundra, out west to Maleny and north to Eumundi, encouraging you to explore the region with a plate in hand.

A key focus of the festival will be the glory of the Sunshine Coast’s seafood. Chow down on crustaceans, shuck open oysters and dive your fork into fresh fish during the Native Bushfoods & Seafood Cruise, the Pol Roger and Local Seafood Degustation Lunch, the Seafood Banquet at Honeysuckle Restaurant and the Sunny Coast Crab Lunch. Are you a sucker for fresh prawns? Be sure to get your pincers on a ticket to the Trawler to Table scenic cruise, which offers the chance to relax on a cruise from the Wharf Mooloolaba precinct down to the fisheries and fish markets. Here you will sample the famous Mooloolaba prawn and indulge in a delicious waterfront lunch at See Restaurant.

Leading local tastemakers and chefs like Matt GolinskiAlejandro Cancino and Stuart Bell are hosting interactive events and lunches, while Melbourne’s Victor Liong (Lee Ho Fook) is joining forces with Daniel Jarrett (The Tamarind) to present Good Fortune For Your Mouth. Hosted over two days at Spicers Tamarind Retreat, these lunches aim to showcase the nuances of modern Chinese cuisine. Keen to spend some time out in nature? Let us recommend one of the many long lunches happening in the Hinterland. Whether it’s the Hinterland Producers Long Lunch at Spicers Clovelly Estate, the Maleny Manor Long Lunch or the combination of jazz, classical music and a long lunch in the Maleny Hinterland, there is no shortage of excuses for you to kick back and soak up a few hours of unbridled feasting.

Finally, with the Sunshine Coast being the Craft Beer Capital of Australia, The Curated (side) Plate is wetting whistles with a range of tempting tipple-filled events. To begin with, Brouhaha Brewery is offering a Bento Beer and Food Masterclass in Maleny, you can visit three of the Sunny Coast’s most popular breweries after dark, feast on a degustation of canapes and froth in Mooloolaba, and enjoy a brewery and farm yard tour in North Arm. Stay in high spirits over the ten days with a Paradise Rum Distillery TourSunshine & Sons Gin Dinner and a cocktail masterclass that will introduce you to the world of muddling, shaking and stirring.
