The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers isn’t just about its namesake offering – the festival is an all-in cultural experience across food, music and the arts as well. One of the biggest drawcards for the carnival is the Heritage Bank Live Concert Series, which runs from the Friday to the Sunday evening and will see the likes of The Temper Trap, Daryl Braithwaite, The Paper Kites, The Angels, and Alex Lahey to name a few. The opening weekend really does turn it on in the flower stakes though – be sure to catch the Grand Central Floral Parade on the Saturday when the streets are adorned with lush floats and amazing entertainers. You can even buy the flowers, fruit and veggies that decorated the floats when the parade is all done and dusted – talk about zero waste!
If you work up an appetite during the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, there are more than a few delicious options to sate you. The Ergon Energy Food & Wine Festival runs from the Friday through to Sunday of the first weekend, bringing together loads of world-famous produce from southern Queensland country. Local providores will be out and about so you can meet the faces behind the food, plus learn more about the paddock-to-plate ethos that’s sweeping the nation. When you add in wine appreciation sessions plus beer and barbecue tastings (hello, low and slow), it’s shaping up to be a very nice time for your tum.
