TEMPORARILY CLOSED The ultimate after-hours art party – dive into Water Up Late

Please note that this event has been cancelled until further notice. We will do our best to keep you updated with the most current information. Night owls will get their chance to marvel at the wonderment and curiosities of QAGOMA’s summer blockbuster exhibition, Water, when live music and art combine for a jam-packed after-hours shindig. From Friday March 20 to Saturday March 21, GOMA will be taken over by homegrown musical talent, pop-up performances, science activations, bars, eats and more for Water Up Late.

The song-fuelled spectacular that is Water Up Late launches on Friday March 20 at 6:00 pm, with South Sudanese artist Gordon Koang set to play an entrancing set of pop tunes, followed by a soulful performance provided by singer-songwriter, Miiesha. The night will be rounded out with an appearance from indie classical quintet, Topology as well as Sydney songstress and future Eurovision rep for Australia, Montaigne. On Saturday March 21 the festivities will kick off from 6:00 pm, with Adrian Eagle treating ears to his reggae-inspired rhythms. Hip-hop and electro-pop-inspired beats from Brisbane artist LÂLKA will keep the party going, followed by a groovy mix of jazz and disco tunes from four-piece collective Mildlife. Topping off the two evenings of musical magic is Brisbane rock royalty and former member of The Go-Betweens, Robert Forster, who will perform a first-class set of iconic water-related songs. Keeping with the local theme, DJs Sweaty Baby and Boom Boom Bean Selecta will be taking the decks on Friday, and Paolo and Hannah D will spin some tunes on Saturday that are guaranteed to get folks boppin’.

Eager aesthetes can also experience the eye-catching contemporary works of Water – stroll across streams on Olafur Eliasson’s Riverbed, gaze at Fischli and Weiss’ smiling Snowman and monkey-climb across William Forsythe’s gymnasium rings The Fact of Matter, which will also be brought to life by acrobatic ensemble Casus Circus. Karaoke hopefuls can let their hair down and put their pipes on display in a playful session of song at the Shower Karaoke pop-up, or those looking to sit back and relax can visit the Science+Chill Lounge, where comedians Joel Gilmore and Lee Constable await with otherworldly science experiments – dry ice guaranteed.
