Celebrate West Village’s new sensory garden with free eco-themed workshops

Considering the state that the planet is in at the moment, teaching the next generation how to be cleaner, greener and more environmentally conscious is a pretty important thing to do. Heck, we can all stand to learn a little more about making our lives more eco-friendly! Lifestyle precinct West Village is doing its bit to make the education process more fun than preachy with the launch of its own dedicated children’s sensory garden. To celebrate the opening of the garden, West Village is hosting some rad free workshops to get locals and visitors alike acquainted with the space – featuring a different activity for every day of the week.

Set in the lush surrounds of parkland The Common, West Village’s sensory garden is an urban slice of eco paradise designed to get people to take a hands-on approach to sustainability. The area is a great place for kids and adults alike to get acquainted with a range of local greenery and insects – as well as a bunch of friendly chooks that take up residence in the chicken coop! If you’re looking for an excuse to get out of the house, this is the ideal opportunity to ditch your screens and get back to nature for a bit.

There will be five kinds of workshops taking place at the sensory garden over three weeks, with a different activity running each day from Monday to Friday. Start the week with a plant and gardening workshop where you can plant a take-home seedling in a pot made from reclaimed materials, then scope Tuesday’s offering with some hands-on upcycling – kids can make DIY dreamcatchers from CDs and yarn. Hump day brings the kitschy grass heads workshop (think pet rock meets chia pet) with Thursday bringing make-your-own flower crowns to the table. Finish it all off on Friday with the bees and backyard chooks workshop – a perfect event for animal lovers.

Want to flex your green thumb? You can reserve your spot at West Village’s free sensory garden workshops through Eventbrite.
