All summer long – the West End hub hooking you up with free school-holiday fun

As the school holidays approach at a rapid pace, anyone with little ones to entertain can understand the sheer panic that ensues. If you’re keen to get your kids (or cousins, nieces, nephews and the like) away from the lure of the screen, West Village has curated an absolutely massive roster of cool activities to keep the young’uns busy this summer. From flower crowns to slime making, the Summer of Fun has something for every kind of kid … and it’s all free.

West Village’s Summer of Fun is all about giving kids something cool to do that’s a little more analogue, encouraging hands-on play and getting outside to enjoy the amazing Queensland climate. Those wandering through The Common of a weekend can take advantage of face painting and giant lawn games, or perhaps a cheeky splash under the water jets on those scorching summer days. If the kids are getting antsy at home, bring them along to Creative Kids – up until December 21, the art space will be hosting workshops that will let imaginations run wild. Your little mates can create festive masterpieces like clay gingerbread houses, paddle pop Santas and more.

If you know a child with a green thumb, West Village has partnered with sustainability agency CitySmart to curate a totally winning Eco Kids program. Running as part of the Summer of Fun, there are free workshops on gardening and upcycling, as well as an opportunity to make flower crowns and chia pets – plus they can get up close and personal with bees and chooks in the sensory garden. You will find afternoon activities in abundance during the Twilight Kids program – any remaining energy can be burnt off with cool activities like slime making, bubble workshops, lantern making and silent disco yoga.

If you’re keen to explore all of the rad stuff happening at West Village during the Summer of Fun, head here. All of the kids workshops are free, but be sure to register your attendance so you don’t miss out.
