Rise, shine and make change – the White Ribbon Day Breakfast brings social justice centre stage

Australia, we have a problem – domestic violence. This heartbreaking issue is one that is unfortunately rampant in our society, with a staggering set of statistics backing up the fact that it is a legitimate epidemic. While the fight for social justice can often be exhausting, we can take solace in the fact that the tide is turning – more voices are chiming in and more people are standing up against these horrors. The Queensland Government’s White Ribbon Day Breakfast is one such step in the right direction, taking place at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Wednesday November 22 to educate, inspire change and serve up delicious eats to boot.

The White Ribbon Day Breakfast is an annual event that brings together delectable eats and social justice – patrons are treated to a sit-down feast whilst an expertly curated panel discusses current issues and important tactics surrounding the domestic violence crisis. At this year’s breakfast there will be a particular focus on prevention being the best form of a cure, as we look towards the crucial role of future generations in ending domestic violence.

The esteemed and beloved Kay McGrath will be chairing this year’s panel as they explore the positive role men can play in preventing violence, the importance of teaching respectful attitudes and behaviours from an early age and how we can educate today’s youth to champion change for future generations. Other panellists at the White Ribbon Day Breakfast include musical maverick and cultural icon Katie Noonan, youth ambassador for the R4Respect program Andrew Taukolo, and national director of the One Woman Project Linden Peacock. Each guest will bring their knowledge to the breakfast table and approach the discussion with the empathy, sensitivity and deep thought it deserves.

If you’re keen to make change and chow down, you can purchase tickets to the White Ribbon Day Breakfast through Eventbrite. Proceeds from ticket sales go towards helping the tireless efforts of White Ribbon and DV Connect.
