Returning for its fourth outing, the White Ribbon Day Breakfast is an annual event that helps to raise awareness for one of our nation’s most crippling problems. The White Ribbon organisation itself places the onus on boys and men to step up to make change, while still taking on the invaluable advice of women in regards to the epidemic. This year’s panel is led by Kay McGrath and is packed with incredible minds that will speak on the issue – you can hear from Shaan Ross-Smith (Director of the MATE Program at Griffith University and Chair of the Board at DVConnect), Steve Gollschewski (Queensland Police Service Deputy Commissioner), Faiza El-Higzi (a Domestic and Family Violence Implementation Council member), and Vanessa Fowler (Chair of The Allison Baden-Clay Foundation).
As well as getting to hear from a diverse panel, the White Ribbon Day Breakfast also provides a channel to open up discussions on how we as a community can help put an end to domestic violence. This year’s focus is on the bystander effect, which is a huge part of the crisis – the panel will aim to openly discuss the culture and attitudes that influence people to either intervene or ignore the issue. The panel will also discuss tangible solutions to effect change and empower those who are confronted with signs of abusive behaviour, equipping them with the tools to step up and step in as safely as possible.
