If you’re not familiar with ‘You’re the Voice’ as a song, allow us to educate you in the form of this video. Even if you know it back to front, we recommend watching the video anyway (if only for Farnsie’s flowing golden mullet). As you can hear, the song is a powerful anthem and a downright belter that is loaded with inspirational themes of unity, resilience and courage. This is what makes it so perfect for You’re the Voice (the event), a project that has seen people from around the country pitch in their vocal contributions to what will add to a mammoth, all-in choral rendition of the aforementioned John Farnham classic.
So let’s talk grand finales – on Saturday July 29 there will be pop-up choirs throughout the day at South Bank Parklands in Brisbane, followed by the main event at South Bank Piazza from 5:00 pm. The closing concert, led by legendary Choral Director Dr Jonathon Welch AM, will bring more than 2500 choralists together alongside QMF Artistic Director Katie Noonan, Kate Ceberano, Isaiah and other star talent. These powerful voices will work together, fusing both literal and virtual reality to make noise and raise awareness for domestic and family violence.
Can’t make it along to You’re the Voice on the day? You can still do your part – Archie Roach, Troy Cassar-Daley and Montaigne have joined forces with Katie Noonan, Kate Ceberano and Isaiah to sing ‘You’re the Voice’ on a charity single to raise funds for DVConnect. Purchase a copy here to help turn the tide on domestic violence.
