Forum: Visibility in Hip Hop – Women on the Front Line
Tue 08 Oct, 10am
Facilitator: Kween G ~ Hip Hop Artist

Panelists: Kaylah Truth, Dizzy Doolan & Philly ~ First Nations Hip Hop Artists

Hip Hop has given clarion voice to poverty, police brutality, violence and racism but had a vexed relationship to women, their stories and their voices. How can female voices more consistently be given their rightful place in the Australian Hip Hop Music scene?

Forum: The Art of Rebellion – The Intersection of Music and Politics
Tue 08 Oct, 11.30am
Facilitator: Merenia Marin (Artist/Specialist Ignite Ability Facilitator SSI)

Panelists: Yumi Stynes (Television/Radio Presenter and Author), Kara Hinesley (Head of Public Policy Australia & NZ | Twitter) & Alethea Beetson

Art is political because it always presents a world view. Voices of difference have to fight to be heard. But once accepted, voices of rebellion can be co-opted and appropriated by the usual suspects. We take a deep look at the voices that are appropriated and the voices that are completely and fundamentally silenced. How can the music industry change to support the integrity and survival of genuine voices of rebellion?

Forum: Image Making – The Changing Face of Music
Tue 08 Oct, 2.15pm
Facilitator: Rhianna Patrick (Broadcaster)

Panelists: Angela Samut (CEO QMusic), Amy Sheppard (Artist), Billie McCarthy (Artist) & Kim ‘Busty Beats’ Bowers (Artist)

We are living in a time when assumptions, stereotypes and images of gender, race, sexuality and cultural diversity are being interrogated, revisited and liberated. How can we keep working to reduce the double standards around unrealistic and objectifying representations of women’s body image to promote realistic messages of confidence?

Keynote Address: Eddie Ayres
Tue 08 Oct, 3.45pm
Building on the wave of support for change embraced by the inaugural AWMAs in 2018, this year’s event welcomes noted broadcaster, musician, writer, teacher, philanthropist and trans man Eddie Ayres as the 2019 Keynote Speaker. Because we are at a crossroads of dynamic possibilities for inclusivity, AWMA’s vision is to lead with generosity, to insist that our society benefits when musicians and those who work with them are empowered from a diversity of places, cultures and identities.

Workshop: Career Development Speed Networking
Tue 08 Oct, 5.15pm
Industry experts provide insights on developing and progressing careers from songwriting and music production to releasing and promoting your work in a series of short intimate group discussions.

Forum: HOW OPERA FORUM – Identity, Representation and Privilege
Wed 09 Oct, 10am

Facilitator: Dr Eve Klein

Panelists: Deborah Cheetham AO (Artist), Dr Jordin Steele (Key Creative, Outcast Performing Arts), Heather Fairbairn (Theatre & Opera Director), Cheryl Barker AO (Artist), Lissa Twomey (Executive Director of Major Performing Arts for the Australia Council).

In May this year at the inaugural New Opera Workshop (NOW 2019) organised by Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University and Opera Queensland, the frustrations of female creators boiled over. An article written by Blackwood, Lim, Polias and Van Ryk responded stating that opera needs to evolve “on our stages, in our creative teams, and on our panels”.

Join us for the HOW discussion where the panel will cover issues such as inclusivity, privilege, the under-representation of female led narratives, the fear around re-inventing works from the existing canon, support and encouragement for new Australian works, the sidelining of female opera creatives and artists, the ever-growing number of opera professionals being imported and the lack of gender parity on our boards.

Black Pass: This pass provides access to all forums, keynote address and networking. Excludes ticket to attend the awards ceremony, concert and party.

Gold Pass: This pass provides access to all forums, keynote address, networking and award ceremony, concert and party plus AWMAs 2019 limited edition signed print.
