The Body Positive Pool party aims to take a space that is historically problematic for folks with bodies that sit outside of society’s oppressive beauty standards and racialised gender norms, and transform it into a space that embraces radical body positivity.
Join us for some prefigurative smashing of the white-supremacist-capitalist-cishet-patriarchy and just generally, one very fun night. The night will include live music, food, thematically linked art, stalls, swimming (of course), a raffle and much more!
All funds raised will be split equally between:
The Gar’ban’djee’lum Network – which is a support network for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ+ folk, Sistergirls, and Brotherboys, and works very closely with IndigiLez Womens Leadership & Support Group.
A new grassroots group called Sovereign Families – which is run by some hardworking Indigenous Aunties and Uncles out of Jagera Arts Centre and supports kids at risk of criminalisation and families at risk of being broken up by the colonial state.
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the unceded land this event is held on, the Jagera and Turrbal Peoples, pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to other Indigenous Peoples in this space.
