Botanica – Contemporary art outside

From May 10–19, Botanica – Contemporary art outside will once again transform the City Botanic Gardens into a vibrant outdoor gallery. The Botanica exhibition returns to incite new perspectives through the interplay of art and nature.

The temporary open-air exhibition invites audiences to uncover a stunning series of installations set amongst the beauty of Queensland’s premier heritage garden. Artists responded to the theme ‘Remnant Landscapes’, considering what the world looked like before us but also imagining the present condition from a future perspective.

Now in its second year, the event will offer a rich public program of tours, talks and workshops. The return of Botanica sees its up-late sessions getting a bit of a makeover – from Friday to Sunday night, patrons can enjoy live performances, projection artworks and delicious food-truck fare from 5:00 pm, with Friday nights in particular extending the joy until 10:00 pm (for those who want to linger a little longer).

The full program features a host of incredible artists each showcasing a custom work – you can glimpse work from Heidi Axelsen and Hugo Moline (MAPA), Inkahoots, City Botanic Gardens staff members Maria Fallon and Blair Anderson, Ross Manning, Sancintya Mohini Simpson, Five Mile Radius, Grace Lilian Lee, Sandra Selig, Julie-Anne Milinski, Post Datum, Christine Ko and Paula Payne. More information on each individual project can be found at the Brisbane City Council website.

Botanica is one of thousands of festivals, markets and events Council helps to deliver each year – giving you more to see and do in a clean and green Brisbane.

This is a signature event of the Museum of Brisbane’s inaugural Brisbane Art Design (BAD) Festival.
