The Salvage Recycling Art Competition is back in 2017! This competition explores the creative potential in reusing and recycling household items and furniture and aims to inspire people to see the reuse possibilities of items that may have otherwise have been thrown away.

A high calibre of Brisbane artists submitted expressions of interest to participate in the 2017 competition resulting in nine Brisbane-based artists being selected to create artworks. The artists create artworks from furniture and other household items sourced from Council’s tip shops and/or from other second-hand centres around Brisbane. Competition artists have 16 weeks to create their artwork and may modify, add to, or remove elements from recycled pieces during the creative process. Artworks must demonstrate the competition purpose, ‘the creative recycling of second-hand household furniture and items’. If newly purchased materials are used, they must form only a minor part of the artwork.

Visit Salvage Recycling Art Exhibition until Saturday August 19 (excluding Sundays) at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, and be sure to vote for your favourite Salvage artwork online or in person at the exhibition. Voting closes on Thursday August 10.
