Following a sold-out performance at QPAC earlier this year and a 2019 Helpmann Award nomination for Sara Macliver in Concert with Camerata, Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra returns to the main stage this August with Sisters.

In the third of four unique Season 2019 concerts, Brisbane-born sisters and violinists Monica and Sarah Curro, daughters of John Curro, legendary Founder of Queensland Youth Orchestras, will make a welcome return home to show their musical mettle. This concert will mark the first-time they will perform as soloists together on the Concert Hall stage. With careers that have seen the sisters perform in orchestras around the world and for almost every national ensemble, they are both currently full-time members of Melbourne Symphony Orchestras (Monica in her 20th year as Assistant Principal 2nd Violin).

The program celebrates the thrill of chamber music with the iconic Bach Double concerto (affectionately known as Dark Bubble) and a recent work for two violins and strings by Richard Mills, distinguished Toowoomba-born composer celebrating his 70th birthday this year. A sumptuous trademark performance for Camerata’s fine musicians, Transfigured Night traces the romantic story of two lovers taking in an evening walk, but even in their state of blissful rapture one of them has a secret to reveal. It’s one of the most passionate, sensual and gripping pieces in the entire string orchestra repertoire.

Making a return to the program, Camerata will once again reveal a mystery wild card guest, in what has become a well-known and loved moment of Camerata’s main stage performances. The wild card segment promises to showcase the finest emerging artists in Australia and delight audience members.

Performing without a conductor, Camerata’s string players have established a reputation for passionate, exciting performances which engage audiences of all ages, regardless of their music experience.

Join Camerata in Toowoomba or Brisbane this August for this season’s much anticipated performance with internationally renowned sisters, Sarah and Monica Curro.
