Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) will present the debut Queensland season of new First Nations contemporary dance company Karul Projects in February 2020 with a double bill of works, mi:wi and CO_EX_EN.

Choreographed by Thomas E.S. Kelly, CO_EX_EN will also ignite a discussion about past, present and future through dance in QPAC’s Playhouse Studio 1 from February 12 to 15.

CO_EX_EN

There’s a site, where the physical and spiritual meet. Where the passing of lore between two co-existing worlds occurs. Boomerangs clap, possum skin drums thud, singing and chanting echo while feet rhythmically stomp. And then silence.

Conversation has been disconnected and commutes have ceased. The site is suspended; no longer activated.

Queensland choreographer and Karul Projects’ Artistic Director Thomas E.S. Kelly invites you to experience the story of this site as a physical being in CO_EX_EN. With choreographic credits that include his Green Room Award winning work [MIS]CONCEIVE, Kelly’s performance offers audiences an opportunity to learn about Aboriginal Australia and where that fits into the modern world. His riveting new dance creation CO_EX_EN combines wit, humour and a unique choreographic style to ignite a conversation about our past, present and future.

The performance will be followed by a 15 minute Q&A. Purchase your tickets through QPAC’s website.
