This year’s exhibition further explores movement and light on Australian forms. The ever-present magpies as well as Debbie’s favourite birds and tree forms. In addition there will be a Stock Room Sale of some of Debbie’s favourite paintings that have made it into finals or have won prizes in local and national events.

Debbie has been painting and drawing for most of her life. She started her formal art training in 1990 while living in Canberra when her family was quite young. She moved back to Brisbane in 1996 and has been in love with the landscape of South East Queensland and it’s bird life ever since.

Debbie’s work is mainly inspired by her local environment as she observes the play of light and the shadows that fall on the trees and bush land around her home. Debbie often walks on Mount Coot Tha and in the Mount Coot Tha Botanical Gardens and draws from these experiences for her compositions. Her work explores the possibilities of the quick gestural mark applied to the representational form. In Debbie’s Landscapes often the Gum trees take on an architectural presence.

This year Debbie has balanced her time between supplying work for a new retail outlet in Montville, “Makersville,” preparing this year’s annual Exhibition at Percolator Gallery in Paddington and competing in Local and National Competitions. She made the finals in both the Rotary Art Prize and the Stanthorpe Art Prize this year.

Debbie’s work continues to be recognised in National and local competitions. She has kept improving in popularity each year and is held in many private collections.
