Norman Lindsay: Fauns and Ladies

Elsewhere

Norman Lindsay: Fauns and Ladies marks 50 years since the death on November 21, 1969 of artist, writer, etcher, sculptor and cartoonist Norman Lindsay.

The showcase display highlights items from the Lindsay Collection of Pat Corrigan, donated to State Library of Queensland under the Cultural Gifts Program.

The controversial and fascinating world of Norman Lindsay comes to life through his much-loved published works, illustrations created as he energised the very genesis of the art press in Australia, and original correspondence written by and to Norman Lindsay revealing insights into his interior life.

The title Fauns and Ladies is taken from a 1929 painting of Norman Lindsay, and a 1923 book of poems by Jack Lindsay and illustrated by his father Norman. It was also the first title published by the Fanfrolico Press – Australia’s first private press. Fauns and Ladies represents the recurrent themes throughout Norman Lindsay’s life and artistic output – arcadianism as depicted by the faun, and the women of his art and his family.
