Looking for something out of this world these school holidays? Take yourself and the family on a journey through space at the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium! There’s never been a better time to check it out – the historic structure has just reopened following the installation of a new six-projector digital system in the Cosmic Skydome.

The Planetarium is a highlight to visit whether you have lived in Brisbane all your life or are here for only a few days, and thanks to the brand new system, you’re now viewing shows with state-of-the-art technology and world-class quality. As well as the new digital projector system, the Planetarium is thrilled to launch two new shows that will take patrons on astronomical adventures.

The new shows are Edge of Darkness, which features amazing scenes from key space missions, and Experience the Aurora giving viewers an immersive all-sky viewing experience of the Aurora Borealis.

If you are looking for things to do with your little ones these school holidays, there are plenty of kids shows to enjoy. Aliens, stars and the solar system are just a few of the exciting topics children and families can learn more about.Shows on offer at the Planetarium these school holidays perfect for children include:

The Little Star That Could: The story of Little Star, an average yellow star searching for planets of his own. Along the way he meets other types of stars, learns what makes each star special, and discovers that he has his own family of planets. Recommended for children from three years. Approx. 35 minutes, inclusive of night sky tour.
Perfect Little Planet: Children will love this show as they learn about our solar system through the eyes of a family of aliens on vacation from another solar system. Recommended for children from five years. Approximately 40 minutes, inclusive of night sky tour.
We Are Aliens!: Narrated by Rupert Grint. The human race is connected better than ever before but could we one day be part of a galactic community sharing our knowledge and ideas? Or is Earth the only planet with life? This show takes you on an epic ride in the hunt for evidence of alien life. Approximately 45 minutes, inclusive of night sky tour.
