St David’s Day

St David’s Day is all about traditions, feasts and celebrations a plenty – marking an important date in the calendar of the humble Welshman!

The patron Saint was born near St Bride’s Bay, Pembrokeshire and is believed to have performed many miracles during his lifetime, even while he was still in his mother’s womb!

Who is St David
Entering the world in a beam of light during a violent storm, this babe grew up to be a leading figure for the church. Described as a simple man that lived on a frugal diet, it is said that he founded more than twelve monasteries, as well as undertaking a special religious journey to Jerusalem. The cathedral he built, known today as St David’s Cathedral holds an important piece of history, a stone from Jerusalem that now sits on the altar of such cathedral. It is easy to see why such an individual is remembered by so many in his home country.

To mark such a memorable day in the Welsh calendar, Pig ‘N’ Whistles are producing these traditional dishes for you all to try! Think Lamb Cawl – lamb, leeks, potato, Caerphilly cheese with a side of sourdough for that important dipping, Lamb Burger –rarebit, fried leeks, field mushroom and chips, Welsh cakes – Raspberry jam and cream for those sweet tooths!

Gweld ti cyn hir!
