Windsor’s Northey Street City Farm is opening its inner-city oasis to the public this summer. The Summer Solstice Night Market will be the first in a series of monthly night markets at the farm and coincides with the collective’s 25th anniversary. Highlights of the event will include a summer solstice ceremony, an Island Nations panel on climate justice, rounds of environmental earth trivia and free earth arts for kids. The main event will be a performance by Vanuatu’s Vanua Fire featuring acrobatics, fire breathing and twirling. Market stalls will house various vendors including artists, healers and ethical makers – even the City Farm nursery will be open and offering a 10 percent discount to patrons on the night. Importantly, this event will pay homage to elders in the City Farm community and the volunteers who contribute to the space every week. A farm retrospective will reflect on the history of City Farm, members of the community are invited to share their memories of the last 25 years. The night will draw to a close as attendees dance under the stars to music from 1994, the year the farm was established.
