To celebrate World Bee Day (Wednesday May 20), West Village has created an online hub dedicated to all things bees, butterflies and nature. Flying onto West Village’s website from May 1–31, Village Bees is a month-long celebration featuring an un-bee-lievable selection of free online activities.
Start off by watching a live-streamed tour of a native bee hive from apiarist Jack Stone from neighbourhood honey heroes Bee One Third. Then dive into honey-inspired sweet and savoury recipe tutorials, hosted by celebrity chef Matt Golinski. If gardening is more your thing, then get green-thumb ready with the West Village Gardener workshops, which will teach you how to draw bees and butterflies to your garden.
Trying to keep the kids entertained? Creative Kids Online will be uploading a new bee-related interactive craft activity each day to help educate kids and keep them busy. There’s cute cork bees, bee drawings and even a pretty leaf print bee using scavenged leaves from the garden. Plus, as soon as it is safe to do so, West Village is bringing a very special bee installation to The Common. From the creative folks of Dead Puppet Society, The Hive Mind is a giant kinetic bee sculpture that uses the wind as its puppeteer.
West Village is also giving away three honey-filled prize packs valued at more than $150. The bundles, which include Bee One Third honey, honeycomb, Honey Bee reusable beeswax wrap and much more, can be won through West Village’s Instagram. All you have to do to enter is take part in one of the many activities on offer during Village Bees, post a pic to the ‘gram of your masterpiece and tag West Village. The three lucky winners will be drawn on Friday May 29.
Head on over to West Village’s Village Bees hub to check out these activities and more.
