They were all popularised in New York City, of course. Food culture has a lot to thank New York City for, because without its pioneering foodies we’d never have eateries such as 51st Street. The team behind Emjays Coffee and Master Toms has continued its hot streak of openings, adding this new bar and restaurant at the Magistrates Court-end of George Street in the Brisbane CBD. Seeking to bring some consistency to Brisbane’s American-inspired food scene, 51st Street pairs a lively bar atmosphere with a comfortable and hip interior.
We’ve hyped it up enough – it’s time to talk food. The 51st Street team has thought outside of the box for its menu, which marries New York-inspired classics such as burgers and pressed sandwiches with the likes of hearty rice and quinoa bowls, superfood smoothies and house-spun gelato desserts. Here’s what our dream meal looks like – a classic American cheeseburger served with a side of cheese and bacon loaded fries, followed by a brisket sandwich or a Portobello mushroom street bowl if we need to fill some gaps. Naturally we’d need something to wash that down, so we’d opt for a house-made soda, craft beer or a classic cocktail if we were feeling extra indulgent (as if we weren’t already). As if that wasn’t enough, 51st Street also serves breakfast and nitro coffee and tea, brewed in house.
