New lease on life – Alfred & Constance scores new ownership

New lease on life – Alfred & Constance scores new ownership

In the wake of the collapse of Damian Griffiths' hospitality empire, much discussion has surrounded what would become of his popular Fortitude Valley locales – especially beloved haunt Alfred & Constance. After months of reduced activity, the corner venue has officially changed hands from receivers to hospitality veterans RMS Group, signalling a new phase for the bar, which will undergo an evolution over the next 12 months. For now, Alfred & Constance is officially back open six nights a week with a new menu, a spruced-up interior and the same energetic atmosphere punters know and love.

The experienced minds behind RMS Group have spent the greater part of two decades running hospitality ventures across Brisbane. Known for institutions such as George on George, The Pavilion Bar, RUSH CBD, Mount Coot-tha’s Botanical Cafe and new laneway haunt Hellcat Maggie, managing director Donna Di Santo and her team are re-entering the Fortitude Valley bar scene, officially purchasing Alfred & Constance from receivers in the past week. The space has already been cleaned up and de-cluttered, while also immediately shifting to a six-day service period for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks from Monday to Saturday.

RMS Group will operate the venue as Alfred & Constance for the foreseeable future, but the team plans to significantly renovate and rebrand in the latter half of 2019. For now, the crew is gathering feedback from new and returning punters while retooling the food and drink menus to include long-time A&C favourites as well as some modern additions. The new breakfast service offers coffee and grab-and-go bakery bites, as well as an a la carte menu of everything from eggs benedict and omelettes to apple and spiced-rum crepes with honeycomb ice-cream and salted-caramel sauce. The revamped lunch and dinner offering includes a relaxed cross-section of dishes, from shareable snacks and burgers to ribs, steaks and chicken parmigiana. The main bar now boasts 12 taps pouring craft and mainstream beers such as Young Henry’s, Stone & Wood, Furphy and James Squire, while the upstairs tiki bar will once again open on Friday and Saturday nights with its full array of cocktails and shared jugs.
