A few short months ago, David Kitchen and Lachy Crothers were in the midst of tinkering and experimenting with what would become the very first batch of Ballistic Beer Co. Little did the two expect that the response from Brisbane’s discerning craft-beer crowd would be bananas so soon after launch, but when the beer is good there’s no keeping people away. As owner and head brewer respectively, David and Lachy haven’t been sitting idle patting each other on the back – far from it. Friday April 7 saw Ballistic Beer unveil it’s own bar on premises at its brewery, immediately drawing in patrons with the promise of 12 taps pouring Ballistic’s core range and some more experimental drops. The space has been designed to keep the focus on what’s in the glass – with a smart industrial feel that utilises the striking sawmill interior. Warm wooden furniture and a custom wooded gum bar have been installed, with plenty of space for riotous ‘cheers’ing at large communal tables.
Those frothing at the thought of a cold one should know that Ballistic’s core range of beers are readily available – those being a mid-strength, a craft lager, and Australian IPA and an oak-fermented English old ale. A cider is also available off tap (exclusive to the Salisbury bar), alongside Girraween Estate wines and a range of unique drops that will feature in limited batch runs. Bar snacks are available for the peckish, but food trucks regularly roll into the warehouse on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. The coming months will see Ballistic Beer look to expand into small packs of cans, but patrons can fill up growlers and squealers on site for home consumption.
