What do you do when you’ve got the hunger pangs and want to eat a dozen of something? The answer is simple – chicken wings! If you fall head-over-heels in love at the sight of a basket of crispy golden wings, then consider wearing a helmet while reading this round up.


King of the Wings, Stafford: A popular contender in the battle for fried-chicken supremacy is mobile wing dispensary turned bricks-and-mortar institution King of the Wings. The popular eatery was invited to represent Australia at WINGFEST in Buffalo in 2016, which gives you a hint as to how legit its chicken wings are. The King of the Wings team are wing wizards of the highest order – definitely give them a try if you’re in Stafford or if you see the truck trundling around town.

Momo Chicken, various locations: If the name didn’t give it away, Momo Chicken is a top-notch chook house that has plenty of options for wing fanatics to devour. There are 12 flavours to choose from, ranging from full or half serves of classic fried, soy or spicy chicken to boneless bites of honey chicken, buffalo, sweet and spicy, cheese and very, very hot.

Yard Doggs, Fortitude Valley: As one of Brisbane’s chicken wing OGs, Yard Doggs knows what’s up when it comes to getting your snack on. Pull up a seat and order six, 12 or 20 wings in either honey barbecue, southern-fried, garlic and parmesan, chipotle barbecue, original buffalo, or the infamous Death Sentence flavour and get munchin’.

Twelve Boar, Cleveland: Bayside bite haven Twelve Boar is all about barbecued meats, but that doesn’t mean they skimp on the wings. Grab a serve (half kilo or full kilo) of either buffalo or barbecue wings with a side of chips and ranch or blue-cheese dressing.

Buffalo Bar, Brisbane City: Inner-city snackers are big fans of Buffalo Bar’s brand of American cuisine, but the wings are particularly special. The bites here come in wet or dusted varieties, with flavours including original buffalo, maple mustard, sriracha and honey, bacon, cheese and chive, parmesan and chilli, and much more.

The Smoke BBQ, New Farm: One of Brisbane’s finest purveyors of American cuisine is The Smoke BBQ in New Farm. In addition to its mouth-watering ribs, brisket and sides, The Smoke BBQ’s wings are top-notch. The menu boasts six kinds to try – original buffalo, blue hot wings, the slightly salty and slightly sweet hurricane wings, honey-soy wings, Kansas City-style wings and The Smoke’s infamous Third-Degree wings.

WingHAÜS by Bavarian, Brisbane City: Rockpool Group’s standalone chicken-wing concept is a handy eatery located in the heart of Brisbane City. WingHAÜS dishes out huge serves of wings, with each choice accompanied by one of eight kinds of hot sauce (traditional, chipotle, habanero, afterburner, face melting, Texas BBQ, teriyaki and Korean) and five dips (blue cheese, ranch dressing, honey and mustard, garlic, and haüs sauce).

Wing FixNewmarket and Coorparoo: From heralded street-food outfit to bricks-and-mortar destination, Wing Fix has built its formidable reputation on the strength of its product. Pop in and choose from Wing Fix’s much-loved wing varieties – saucy flavour selections include classics such as mild buffalo, honey soy and garlic parmesan, but fans of a simple crispy number can opt for original fried.

Seoul Bistro, Sunnybank: Locals on Brisbane’s southside rave about the offering at fried-chicken joint Seoul Bistro – and for good reason! Taking inspiration from Korean-style cooking, Seoul Bistro’s menu includes crispy fried, honey wasabi, buffalo and peri peri wings, with servings of seven, 12 and 22 wings (plus a chicken-wing buffet) ensuring every hunger level is catered for.

Tippler’s Tap, South Bank: Chicago-style eats and craft beer are a specialty at Tippler’s Tap, but diners with a cluckin’ big appetite will single out the Tippler’s wings as a menu highlight. The bar’s famous dry spice-rubbed chicken wings with a blue-cheese dipping sauce are phenomenal, and a selection of hot sauces are on hand to help turn up the heat if desired.

Big Roddy’s Rippin’ Rib Shack, South Brisbane: Although barbecue is Big Roddy’s first love, this Fish Lane rib shack also does justice to the rest of American cuisine – in particular, chicken wings. The hotspot serves up baskets of chicken wings lathered in tangy buffalo sauce, with servings also accompanied by your choice of dipping sauce.

KaiKai Chicken, St Lucia: If you’re considering a visit to St Lucia’s KaiKai Chicken, be sure to come hungry. This spot specialises in all-you-can-eat fried chicken, which means for a set price you can loosen your pants for a buffet of unlimited fried chicken (in Korean, American and Southeast Asian-inspired flavours).

Hellbound, New Farm: If you like your music loud, beer cold and wings spicy, Hellbound on Brunswick Street is the haunt for you. In addition to its burgers and sides, Hellbound’s hot wings are a must-try for those seeking a kick. Be sure to pop in on Wednesday when Hellbound hawks these bad boys for 50-c a pop.

Newstead Brewing Co., Milton: This huge gastropub is a terrific spot to sink a schooner or two and enjoy some top-notch grub, but if you’ve got a hankering for wings by the handful, pencil in a visit on Monday. Three kinds of chicken wings are available, with various portion sizes coming with a drink to help wash it all down. Every other day, Newstead’s buffalo spicy wings are available with blue-cheese ranch sauce.

Fat Angel Sports Bar and Grill, Brisbane City: Live sports, beer and wings – name a more iconic trio. Fat Angel in Eagle Lane has got all three in spades, with four kinds of wings to sample, including original buffalo, Jack Daniels barbecue sauce, Fat Angel’s own dry rub and an extra-spicy death sauce variety.

KCS Chicken, Wooloongabba: Sitting pretty on the streets of East Brisbane, KCS Chicken is a must-try. Served up on a silver platter are boneless chicken wingettes with a lip-smacking array of sauces to choose from – secret soy, smoky barbecue and original. Pair your main with a side of chilli fries, halloumi sticks or sweet-potato chips to give your taste buds a little extra loving.
