The round-up: the best hot chocolates to keep you toasty this winter

One of our favourite ways to cosy up in winter is with a good ol' fashioned cup of cocoa. To help you discover the best place to find a top-notch hot choccy, we asked you, dear readers, to reveal your favourite places to secure a chocolate-infused sip. Here are some of your most beloved places to wrap your mitts around a hot chocolate ...

Noosa Chocolate Factory, Brisbane City: It’s a no brainer that a dedicated chocolatier would make a mean mug of the hot stuff as well, so no wonder so many of you count this spot as your favourite hot-choccy dispensary! Situated on Adelaide Street, Noosa Chocolate Factory’s coffee joint serves up a bevy of delicious hot chocolate varieties using some of its own slabs of decadent chocolate.

Barko & Co, Teneriffe: Riverside cafe Barko & Co purchase organic single origin cocoa from Colombia and Peru to make its own blend of hot chocolates, which come in regular, chilli and ginger variations. These bad boys are vegan, gluten free and can be made with your choice of milk or even the traditional way, with just water.

Pablo, New Farm: New Farm favourite Pablo is a primo place to pop in for a toasty drink in the morning, and its hot chocolates are well worth a taste test. Topped with real chocolate flakes, this cosy cuppa is the perfect companion to take along a walk through New Farm Park.

Sweetshop Specialty Coffee, Bardon: Bardon newcomer Sweetshop Specialty Coffee not only serves up top-notch caffeine to the western ‘burbs, but also mouth-watering hot chocolate too. You have milk, white and dark chocolate to choose from, which is the perfect accompaniment to brunch.

Mr Claude, Brisbane City: If you’re craving a steaming hot sweet drink, then Mr Claude in The City has your back. Sip speciality drinks like organic Colombia hot chocolate, cookies-and-cream hot chocolate (topped with mini Oreos) or the chocolate and mint chiller topped with cream and chocolate-mint KitKat.

Bunker, Milton: This dynamo coffee destination is considered somewhat of a specialist when it comes to hot chocolate. Sweet tooths can opt for a rich hot chocolate (which comes in flavours like peanut butter, lavender, chilli and peppermint) to go or add a shot of coffee to make your work day a little less taxing.

John Mills Himself, Brisbane City: Grab your most comfy cardigan and head to inner-city coffee nook John Mills Himself, a much-loved locale that provides suitable shelter from the chilly winter winds. The menu here offers three hot chocolate varieties – dairy milk, white and 70-percent dark. We suggest multiple pit stops to make sure you’ve tried each flavour.

Denim Co, South Bank: South Bank’s Denim Co. on Little Stanley Street has an impressive selection of specialty hot chocolates that is sure to satisfy even the most seasoned hot-choccy drinker. You can choose from dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate varieties, as well as rich and thick Italian hot chocolate blends. Trust us, these cupfuls of goodness are worth slurping.

SisCo, Spring Hill: Making hot chocolate at home is one of our favourite past times in winter, but sometimes it’s worth leaving the hard work up to the experts. Spring Hill’s SisCo makes a great home-style hot chocolate – what more could you want when the temps drop into the teens.

Cowch, multiple locations: What good would a dessert bar be if it didn’t serve some kick-ass hot chocolate? Thankfully Cowch has all of the bases covered, especially when it comes to its hot beverages. Indulge in a deluxe hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows, with flavours ranging from white chocolate to caramel.

San Churro Chocolateria, multiple locations: Dedicated dessert lovers are well acquainted with the selection of sweet treats at San Churro, and its hot chocolates are some of the most-adored menu items. Classic Spanish, mocha, sugar-free, Azteca (chilli and cinnamon), and milk, dark and white chocolate varieties are on offer, as well as hot-chocolate bombs filled with marshmallows and served with your favourite hot chocolate flavour.

The Menagerie, Kelvin Grove: Kelvin Grove cafe The Menagerie can cure a case of the winter blues with its cups of vegan hot chocolate, a delectable dairy-free alternative to the tempting treat. Pair your sip with a freshly baked pastry and you’ll be in confection heaven.

Lindt Chocolate Shop, DFO: When you think of Lindt, you probably imagine the large gift boxes of individually wrapped balls that we usually receive at Christmas time. If you’re a fiend for Lindt chocolates all year round, then we think it’s worth making a trip to The Lindt Chocolate Shop at DFO, which offers a salivation-inducing selection of hot beverages made from the brand’s signature sweets.
