So why, you might be asking, is that the name of Coorparoo’s newest bar? For owners Aidan McGarrity and Mark McKenna, the name holds a lot of meaning. Not only do they encourage a spot of cheekiness in the bar, but the lads have also travelled ‘beyond the pale’ themselves, leaving Ireland for warmer pastures here in Australia. Beyond the Pale is the long-time friends’ first foray into hospitality together, with the bar set to open this week on Friday November 3. As Coorparoo locals, Aidan and Mark were itching for a neighbourhood watering hole that was a step above the corner pub, but more casual than an inner-city bar. When the soon-to-be-complete Coorparoo Square precinct was announced, they decided to take matters into their own hands and create the local they’d been hoping for.
Beyond the Pale, however, is far more than just a neighbourhood bar. The corner spot is open from 6:00 am until late seven days a week, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between. Dramanti Coffee and takeaway eats are served from the coffee window in the laneway, or breakfast bites such as smoked salmon potato stacks, classic eggs benedict and goats milk panna cotta can be eaten in. Gastropub-style mains such as wagyu cheeseburgers, crispy-skin salmon and eye fillet feature on the lunch and dinner menu, while bar snacks such as spiced house pickles, chicken wings and mac’n’cheese nuggets will be on offer until late. If you fancy something fresh, Beyond the Pale is also whipping up poke bowls filled with karaage chicken, salmon or veggies to eat in or takeaway. The breezy indoor/outdoor space, which has been fit out by Tonic Projects, lends itself to kicking back with an ice-cold bev (or three) and Beyond the Pale’s selection will certainly not leave you wanting. Twelve taps feature a selection of 10 local beers and one cider, with the final spot dedicated to refreshing Pimm’s on tap, plus there’s an impressive back bar filled with all of your favourite libations.
Beyond the Pale will be the first retailer to open in the highly anticipated Coorparoo Square precinct this Friday November 3. For opening hours and contact details, head to our Stumble Guide.
