There’s nothing quite like a makeover to make one feel brand new – just ask the crew at Bonny View Hotel in Bald Hills. The latest suburban institution to be on the receiving end of a top-notch makeover, the Bonny View Hotel celebrated more than eight decades of operation with a contemporary revitalisation – one that looked to implement a modern-yet-relaxed aesthetic that could appeal to a broad cross-section of the community. Now, when we say the overhaul was substantial, we really mean it. Brisbane-based architecture firm Push started the overhaul with the hotel’s exterior – a crisp white facade now beckoning patrons to check out the sophisticated interior spaces. The hotel’s freshly renovated main dining area and outdoor bistro now boast a classic family-friendly vibe, suitable for weekend lunches or weeknight dinner outings, and the addition of a kid’s play area will help keep the little ones entertained while the adults catch up. Although given a tidy up with the rest of the venue, Bonny View Hotel’s front bar retains much of the classic pub atmosphere desired of a local watering hole, with television screens and TAB facilities on hand for the sports nuts. Flowing on from the public bar is the outdoor deck, which is the perfect spot for breezy snacking or casual drinks.
Of course, no pub overhaul would be complete without some tasty new menu items to match. Bonny View Hotel’s bar and dining room menus feature a drool-worthy selection of gastro-pub-style eats that complement the elevated aesthetics. Fans of true-blue pub favourites can still chomp on schnitties, parmies, steak sandwiches, burgers and beer-battered fish and chips, but those with an adventurous palate can branch out with some intriguing newcomers. Grazing-style morsels like wagyu brisket croquettes, pulled jackfruit tacos, baked half-shell scallops with potato and garlic puree share menu space with more substantial nosh such as Bonny’s chicken kiev, plant-based bangers and mash, and mushroom arancini burgers. Steak lovers are amply catered for, too, with slabs of grain-fed Riverina Angus beef grilled to your liking. The hotel’s bar-snack menu features many of the above eats, but is also the exclusive home of crispy buttermilk wings lathered in spiced Bundy Rum barbecue sauce, pulled-pork nachos and the signature Chicken Parmi Hot Dog, which sees a crumbed chicken sausage topped with Napoli sauce, crispy bacon and liquid cheese. Bonny View’s bar is amply stocked with a considered selection of beers and wines, with a refreshed cocktail list (which now includes cocktail jugs) added to the mix.
