Three cheers – BrewDog selects Brisbane for its first Australian brewery

In huge news for hop heads and craft-beer loving cats out there, famed beer makers BrewDog recently announced plans to situate its first Australian brewery here in Brisbane. A state-of-the-art facility will soon take shape in Murarrie, will all the bells and whistles including a canning line, taproom and restaurant.

For the uninitiated, BrewDog is one of Scotland’s largest brewing operations – an established titan of the craft-beer scene that has earned renown in its home country and the United States not just for its beers (which we hear are fantastic), but also for its progressive working culture. In 2017 the company announced plans to head Down Under to establish a presence in the Australian market and to shorten the distance between BrewDog beers and our tastebuds. The team started to search for a suitable location to set up shop, with the final choice coming down to Newcastle and Brisbane. Lucky for us thirsty Queenslanders, we have been selected as the home for BrewDog’s first Australian brewery!

BrewDog has revealed that the new brewery will be situated on the Brisbane River in Murarrie, and will reportedly include construction of a 50-hectolitre, 3000-sqm brewery and canning facility, as well as a restaurant, taproom and visitor centre. Construction is expected to start in the second half of 2018, and we can hopefully look forward to tasting the fruits of its labour in early 2019. BrewDog will be crafting its full line-up of headliner beers with hops sourced from Australian and New Zealand farms, including its Punk IPA, Dead Pony Club and Jet Black Heart beers and a range of brews for regional markets. Be sure to keep your eyes on The Weekend Edition for more details as they emerge!
