Introducing Brewski 2.0 – Petrie Terrace’s craft-beer haven grows up

Caxton Street’s street-side bar and eatery Brewski has been an oasis for parched beer lovers for nearly as long as craft beer has been popular in Brisbane. Although real estate along the Petrie Terrace strip is at a premium, Antoinette Pollock and Matt Emmerson of Brewski have always envisioned an expansion of facilities. The pair has ingeniously enacted a plan to expand downward and upward for a series of new additions to their beloved watering hole, adding a brand-new dining area, a specialised function space and plans for an on-site bottle shop.

When Antoinette and Matt approached their landlord with the idea of adding a bottle shop to Brewski’s premises, they were given permission to go wild with the space. Seizing the opportunity, their plans quickly expanded to encompass a few new features to the venue, doubling its patron capacity and adding in-demand function capabilities. Brewski’s new top-floor dining area Greenhouse has replaced the venue’s back deck, but designed in such a way so as to bring the outside in with help from a selection of greenery. Bespoke furniture fashioned by Gold Coast outfit Good Wood Supply Co fills the space, alongside a feature wall covered by 99 bottles of beer. Long-time Brewski fans will also be stoked to know that several new air-conditioning units will keep the space chilled throughout Brisbane’s scorching summer. Downstairs, patrons will find a new female toilet (built around a restored brick fireplace) and The Low Ground – Brewski’s multi-faceted function room where punters will be able to secure craft-beer kegs and malleable food packages of their choosing for a perfect brew-lovers gathering. Speaking of the food, Brewski’s food packages reflect its main menu, showcasing both meaty and plant-based morsels, with mac’n’cheese croquettes, low-and-slow barbecued bites and chicken wings featuring.

Brewski 2.0’s next phase will see My Beer Dealer bottle shop take shape underneath Brewski’s main bar. Described by Matt as a “beer nerd’s paradise”, the space (currently being hewn from an old stable built in the 1800s) will showcase a worldly selection of independent craft beer, specialised Australian spirits, boutique wines by the barrel, merchandise and several taps for growler refills and on-site canning. Another outdoor nook will be converted into a courtyard, while Ant and Matt are in the planning stages of converting an upstairs apartment space into another function area in the not-too-distant future.
