Frog’s Hollow Saloon
Call us Frank Sinatra, as we believe there’s no better way to warm up than inside a cosy bar with a whisky in hand. One place where you can do exactly this is Frog’s Hollow Saloon, Charlotte Street’s fresh-faced whisky and cocktail bar. At this charming newcomer, you can pull up a chair to sample whisky from around 320 labels, tuck in to some simple but delicious bar snacks (chicken soup and beef sandwiches are on the menu) and enjoy some service-driven warmth.
Greenglass
An unmarked doorway on George Street is the unassuming entry to inner-city gem Greenglass. This secret spot plates up affordable and soul-warming French bistro-inspired lunches and dinners, which serve as a backdrop for the impressive wine selection – the true star of the venue. You can sample from the menu of 100 small-batch Australian wines on show, or early birds can treat themselves to winter-warming coffee and pastries from 8:00 am.
Dr. Gimlette
If you’re a fan of the whistle-wetting cocktails served up at beloved Burnett Lane bar Death and Taxes, then you’ll feel right at home at the team’s most recent venture, Dr. Gimlette. Nestled at the base of the Metro Arts building on Edward Street, this chic cocktail bar specialises in, you guessed it, cocktails. Alongside a 30-strong list of carefully crafted concoctions, Dr. Gimlette’s back bar is stocked with roughly 800 bottles, featuring a jaw-dropping range of spirits (there’s lots of gin), aperitifs and liqueurs. The venue also has two roaming martini carts whipping up shaken, stirred and thrown tipples right there at your seat. Now that’s sure to warm you up!
Exhibition Restaurant
The brainchild of Tim Scott (one of the original founders of Fortitude Valley favourite Joy.), Edward Street newbie Exhibition looks to offer culinary adventurers a sense of escapism from the outside world. The super snug spot (which boasts room for just 24 diners), imbues an atmosphere that is both intimate and electric with help from a killer playlist. The mouth-watering menu boasts snacks like sashimi scampi, churros with sturgeon caviar, and abalone liver parfait followed by salivation-inducing substantial dishes such as Southern rock lobster with tomato, ruby grapefruit and ponzu, and Hervey Bay mud crab with hikari miso, abalone and sweet potato.
Rothwell’s Bar & Grill
Found at the base of the Rothwell Building on Edward Street, Rothwell’s Bar & Grill combines a luxe yet welcoming interior with a menu of flavour-packed European-style bistro fare. The venue features a 90-seat main dining room, a 40-seat bar space and a private-dining room in the cellar downstairs, where diners can retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city to indulge in dishes like prawn cocktails, Moreton Bay bugs with Thermidor sauce, beef Wellington with red wine sauce, T-bone steaks, and beef ragu rigatoni. We’re drooling just a little bit.
