Brisbane Ice Cream Festival returns with late-night eats and chef’s table treats

It’s no secret that you, our dear readers, have a soft spot for desserts. The proof is in the pudding – every time we so much as mention the Brisbane Ice Cream Festival it whips you into a frenzy! We broke the news in this week’s Pavement Whispers that the beloved event is returning to its spiritual home of the Peters Ice Cream Factory bigger and better than ever before – with some seriously tasty additions to boot. We’ve got the scoop on everything going down at this year’s festival, so read on and try not to drool on your keyboard.

First of all, we meant it literally when we said the Brisbane Ice Cream Festival would be bigger this year – operations have expanded to two full days, so if you’ve missed out on the sold-out event previously, you have a much greater chance of nabbing a spot. Three separate timed sessions will take place on both Saturday March 23 and Sunday March 24, with 17 vendors stepping up to the plate to provide an array of sweet treats. Amongst classic scoops and swirls you will find more adventurous creations – think Frozen Sunshine’s guacamole and corn chips ice-block, a pavlova special from Ice Cream Curls, and gelato-filled cannoli from La Macellaria for inspo. Please note: these free sessions have all sold out.

Another exciting scoop from this year’s Brisbane Ice Cream Festival is the addition of two brand-new events. On Friday March 22, The Deck WV at West Village will be hosting a delicious Up Late session – think all manner of ice-cream treats with a boozy twist. A live DJ spinning sweet tunes will soundtrack the two-hour session, where patrons can indulge in dessert cocktails, ice-cream canapes and some savoury snacks to break it up. The other fresh festival face is Chef’s Playground, a Saturday night extravaganza that sees Brisbane culinary heavyweights Phillip Johnson, Ben Williamson, Paul McGivern and Dominique Rizzo take over Bromley Room #2 to create two dishes each, exploring the realms of sweet and savoury with some unexpected twist (plus wine).

Has this news made you melt? Free registrations for the Brisbane Ice Cream Festival have sold out, but tickets to the Up Late and Chef’s Playground events are still available – get in quick!
