Salt Meats Cheese, Newstead: The famed Sydney-born Italian brand expanded to Brisbane in 2017, bringing with it some formidable fare including rosse and bianche pizzas, as well as some calzoni. We’re frothing over the capricciosa with mushrooms, ham and artichokes, and the four-cheese pizza with fior di latte, taleggio, gorgonzola and provola.
Neighbourhood Pizza, Kenmore: Few things pair with pizza as well as hip-hop, which is why Neighbourhood Pizza is a must-try. Kick back and enjoy the vibe with eight pizzas available, including varieties topped with speck and ricotta cream, American hot honey with dried chilli and salami, and mushrooms with fontina, thyme and truffle oil.

Pizzeria Violetta, various locations: Renata Roberts has created a mini empire within Kenmore with Stavros the Greek, Sichuan Bang Bang and Pizzeria Violetta in Kenmore, putting her spin on some of the world’s favourite cuisines. Renata’s pizzeria offers classic pizzas fresh from an imported AVPN-approved wood-fired pizza oven, keeping things as traditional as possible. You can also get your hands on a slice in Paddington and Wilston.
Prova Pizzeria, Stafford Heights: This Stafford Heights eatery boasts an authentic, imported Stefano Ferraro wood-fire pizza oven, and experienced hands in the kitchen. We’re talking a world-renowned pizzaiolo spinning the dough and creating some truly unique pizzas for you to sample. Sound’s pretty good, doesn’t it?
Sugo mi, Bulimba: Want a truly memorable pizza experience? Sink your teeth into a Pomordorini pizza with smoked sugo, mozzarella, sopressa, tomatoes, olives and basil and follow it up with some award-winning Italian gelato. Bliss.
Lupa Pizza Bar, West End: This pizza joint specialises in Roman-style pizza which, for the uninitiated, means that a different kind of slow-fermenting dough is employed to create a lighter and more easily digestible pizza. Six white and six red pizzas are on offer, in addition to focaccia-style lupacchiotto bites, dessert pizzas and a range of natural wines from Italy.
Sorellina, Wooloongabba: This Woolloongabba destination prides itself on three things – its pizza, wine and beer. We can vouch for all three. The dough here is cold risen for 36 hours, then hand-shaped and fired to lightly charred perfection.
Coppa Spuntino, Brisbane City: Fancy a great pizza and a cocktail? Coppa Spuntino serves up a selection of small pizzas and also boasts a sizeable cocktail list that includes nine kinds of negroni. Nine!
Martha Street Kitchen, Camp Hill: This chic pizzeria does a great job of doing justice to Italian cuisine as a whole, but we simply can’t go past the pizzas. Want proof? Sample the likes of pancetta and radicchio pizzas, prosciutto pizzas with bocconcini and figs, and prawn pizzas with chorizo and piquillo peppers.
Tartufo, Fortitude Valley: The iconic Italian city of Naples and the surrounding regions of Tuscany, Umbria and Abruzzo inspire this restaurant’s pizza menu. Tartufo prides itself on making true Neapolitan pizza with the best ingredients available.
The Burrow, West End: This cosy nook in West End is a terrific spot to enjoy a relaxed gathering with friends, made even more enjoyable with the addition of great pizza. Enjoy the Bad Muther-Fungi heaped high with mushrooms, pancetta, blue cheese sauce and mozzarella on a tomato base, or try for the Tropical Meat Storm with double smoked bacon, pepperoni, pineapple, red onion, chilli flakes and herbs.
Gianni’s Kitchen, Newstead: Just off Commercial Road sits Gianni’s Kitchen, an Italian-style eatery with deli serving some of the best smallgoods in town. Stick around and try a pizza topped with the likes of Sicilian sausage, salame picante, parma ham or artichokes and mushrooms.
La Pinsa, Paddington: Okay, just to be clear – this is pinsa, not pizza. The difference is in the dough, which is made from a traditional recipe that results in a lighter form of base. That being said, you can still get the pizza experience here, with pinsa topped with an array of fresh and tasty ingredients.
