More than 700 cafes, restaurants and coffee roasters across the country – include a slew in Brisbane and the Gold Coast – will unite to raise funds in the CafeSmart 2019 fight against homelessness this week. The annual campaign is fuelled by the generosity of the coffee industry, with participating venues donating $1 from every coffee sold on the day and customers also being encouraged to match the $1 donation themselves. Some of our favourite venues, including John Mills Himself, Three Blue Ducks, Morning After, Plenty, Abode Cafe, nodo, Dovetail on Overend and plenty more, will be getting involved in 2019.
Held on the final day of National Homelessness Week, Friday August 9, CafeSmart extends financial assistance to local services working on the front line that provide meals, showers, basic medical and legal services, rental and employment advice, and job training to those in need. The StreetSmart campaign raised and distributed an impressive $1 million last year and this year you could be part of the good work in your local area, simply by supping your daily brew. Find a participating cafe in your local hood by searching your location or if you can’t make it to a cafe on the day, simply make a donation online.
