The round-up: make it rain with Brisbane’s best cheap and cheerful weeknight eats

Real talk, two of the hardest things about being an adult are feeding yourself and saving money. Your post-work laziness may have you feeling like you’re doomed to nights of discount noodles in front of the TV, but we’re here to shine a light into the end of that grim tunnel. Brisbane is brimming with Monday to Thursday dinner deals that will save you some serious coin, so we’ve rounded up a motley crew of pre-weekend cheap eats that are worth getting off the couch for.

MONDAY
Soothe the wallet sting of the weekend just gone with Monday Madness at Arrivederci in Milton. When dining in, their delicious authentic Italian pizzas are just $12, which leaves plenty of change for a $5 beer. For a steak that won’t break the bank, hit up the Jubilee Hotel for a mouth-watering meat feast from as low as $3. Sides can be added for a little extra, so you can build you own dinner with the bits you actually like. The End holds up its rep as Brisbane’s coolest hole-in-the-wall by teaming up with neighbours Zagyoza to bring cheap Japanese cheer to Monday nights. Hip cats can feast on succulent five for $5 gyoza paired with a $8 Asahi or $8 traditional Japanese whisky, all set to the smooth tunes of local DJs. Eastside pals can munch on a meaty $20 half rack of pork ribs at Twelve Boar, and as a special treat you can level up from fries to onion rings at no extra charge. All Sichuan Bang Bang and Pizzeria Violetta locations do dope deals on Monday (and Tuesday), where $10 gets you a juicy Lamb Chop Chop or margherita pizza. Keep it Real at Bloodhound Bar sees that you need only buy a drink, and then you can grab a meal for just $10.

TUESDAY
It’s a universally accepted truth that Tuesday is the day in which one partakes in tacos. Don’t fight it – maxi your Mexi with Brew and Tippler’s Tap serving up a stellar variety of $2 tacos, and Bloodhound Bar smashing out a two-for-one deal. For those in the Valley and West End, Beach Burrito’s tacos drop from $5 to $3. No wonder the Greek economy is in trouble when they’re throwing around deals like this – The Yiros Shop has created Tight Greek Tuesdays, where patrons can get their mitts around a generous $10 yiros and drink combo. Cast away your aspersions of Cheap Tuesday being relegated to half-hearted soggy slices from Dominos. Here’s the scoop – $10 at Brewski buys a damn delicious pizza that’s a lot more fancy than your standard pepperoni. How does the chance to rock/scissors/paper a bonus burger sound? Taps the Valley has Two for One Buns, where after ordering a burger punters get to battle the bartender for a shot at a second burg. That’s a 33 percent chance of free eats!

WEDNESDAY
Alliteration is a great marketing tool, and there’s a really impressive selection of Wing Wednesdays to prove it. The Manhattan Line’s Wingsday can translate $12 into a kilo of wings, and Taps the Valley offer the tasty morsels for 50 cents apiece. City slickers can get their fix at Red Hook, with one kilo of wings going for $13. On the subject of everyone’s favourite delicious bird, weeknight saviour Barbara has joined forces with Lucky Egg to take the wing thing next level. Embrace the lazy way of life and order discounted Lucky Egg goodness to be delivered fresh to the bar, all to the soundtrack of some killer hip hop. The gang here at The Weekend Edition know a thing or two about gettin’ schnitty with it, so we’ll readily drop the knowledge that Brat Haus schnitzels are a mere $9.90 on Wednesdays. Two-for-one is a time-honoured tradition built on giving people more bang for their buck, and Brisbane’s favourite food haunts are holding it down. Embrace these choice options with open arms – Hoo Ha Bar do delightful burgers, Archive offer fancied-up pub fare and Sabotage Social has share plates to spare. Any which way, someone eats for free. Flash a crisp tenner at Statler & Waldorf and you can get your hands on a hearty serve of homemade pasta.

THURSDAY
Twinning is winning, and Red Hook is well aware. Bring a pal on a Thursday and grab two Brooklyn cheeseburgers with two serves of fries for $25 all up. Add a Budweiser for a mere $5 extra each and that’s one sweet double deal. One of the best-kept secrets in South Brisbane is the Milk Factory’s $10 parma Thursday. Vegetarians can get in on the bargain too, with the chefs offering up an amazing eggplant alternative. Fans of seafood need only bring $25 and their stretchy pants to The Fox – when the clock strikes 5:00 pm it’s all you can eat fresh mussels, as in the mussels only stop coming when you say so. More, please! Sausage sizzles are always a win, but Bavarian Bier Cafe is kicking the basic Bunnings vibe to the kerb. Their snazzy haus-made hotdogs are up for $5 each, or $10 for thirsty folks who’d like to wash it down with a craft beer.
