The Emporium Barber on King Street will be the first location of City Winery’s pop-up cellar door – a new initiative to provide employment opportunities to City Winery staff while also stimulating other independent businesses. The concept originated as a way to pivot the urban winery’s service model to find new revenue opportunities in the wake of sweeping restrictions on Brisbane’s hospitality scene, as well as a way to keep staff earning as much as possible through this tough period. This will be the first of several pop-ups planned across Brisbane, with City Winery is hoping to partner with cafes that are missing a chunk of income by either leasing the venue for the pop-up or finding ways to partner up on enticing deals.
From 4:00–8:00 pm on Thursday and Friday this week, City Winery’s pop-up cellar door will be selling takeaway wine, cheese and charcuterie (assembled by City Winery’s talented chefs) from Emporium Barber’s shop front. City Winery’s Adam Penberthy said in a statement, “This is all about loving your local – we want people to pop down, grab a bottle of wine from us and maybe a bit of cheese, and then go grab [a take-home] dinner from Montrachet or one of the other traders before heading home”. The cellar door is strictly for takeaway goods, though those that need a trim can enjoy complimentary glass of wine with their haircut or opt for a cut-and-bottle offer – a snip and a bottle of Gerler wine takeaway for $70. City Winery has also introduced delivery packages for those seeking a wine and charcuterie experience at home.
