Coorparoo Square swells with its second wave of openings

According to a very reputable news source, headed up by a man named Huey Lewis, it’s hip to be square. Since opening in late 2017, Coorparoo Square has proved this theory true – the precinct has been consistently pumping every night of the week. And with a new wave of eateries, pamper palaces, stylish salons and gourmet providores recently opening their doors, it doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. In case you haven't had a chance to take a turn about the square, allow us to fill you in.

Fresh on the scene is long-awaited Texan-style barbecue joint Special Rub, which lovingly smokes meaty morsels to perfection, pairing a menu of carnivorous delights with a selection of tap beers, boutique bourbon and sodas. A few spaces away, patrons can catch the alluring scent of the dishes coming from the kitchen of Saffron Indian Gourmet, where curries, roti, naans, and chargrilled bites are available from lunch until dinner. Coorparoo Square now also boasts its own sushi train in the form of Sushi Kiyo, where you can snack on plate after plate from the train without a second thought – they’re all $3.50 – or order the likes of karaage chicken, udon noodles and sashimi plates prepared to order. For an after-dinner (or any time, really) treat, La Mimosa is dishing out scoops of artisan gelato that are perfect for capping off any gastronomic outing.

Pampering is also a core component of Coorparoo Square’s offering, with a host of spots that can help you primp, polish or simply relax. Gents can pop into Tony’s Chop Shop Barbershop and get a snip from accomplished barber Tony Micale, while the ladies can book in for an appointment at Tigerlamb and enjoy cutting, styling, colouring, chemical straightening and lash-tinting services. Le Beauty is your best bet for everything from nails, tans and waxing to brows, make-up and skincare products, while Young Sunn Natural Therapies offers a selection of traditional Chinese medicine treatments, including acupuncture, tui-na massage, cupping and herbal remedies. Once you’re feeling zen on the inside, you can stop by Bryant Family Jewellers and pick up a stunning handmade statement piece to match your sparkling aura. While you’re there, you can also take advantage of a range of services from watch repairs to laser welding and more.

For take-home delights, ALDI can sort you out for groceries (and that high-pressure gurney you never knew you needed), while boutique bottle shop Sense of Taste has got a stellar selection of drops to choose from. The store is brimming with top-shelf spirits, boutique wines, beers on tap for takeaway squealers and growlers, and gourmet smallgoods, plus it even has its own in-store tasting bar, so you can sample the range before you make a decision.

Don’t forget about the rest! Coorparoo Square’s got more to check out, including Beyond The PaleDendy CinemaMission Vietnamese, Kivahan and Barbacoa.
