Craft Wine Store crosses the river and opens a new shop in Coorparoo

For more than five years, Tony and Tanya Harper have been suppling Brisbane with some of the best boutique liquor around. From artisan spirits, craft beers and obscure wine labels, Craft Wine Store has earned it’s share of renown for only stocking the best. In good news for locals south of the Brisbane River, Craft Wine Store has now opened next to Coorparoo Square, offering its curated range and more space for covetable libations.

It’s not uncommon for folks to travel long distances for a good thing, but Craft Wine Store’s Tony and Tanya Harper were noticing a disproportionate amount of people were driving across town to peruse their selection of boutique wines, beers and spirits at Red Hill. As locals of the Coorparoo area themselves, Tony and Tanya could see a gap in the local market for their kind of service across town, and so the duo set about searching for the right space to install Craft Wine Store 2.0 in Brisbane’s south. A former bank space proved ideal for the new locale – situated in the shadow of Coorparoo Square on the outbound lane of Old Cleveland Road. In collaboration with architect Jackson Lightbody of Lightbody Architects, Tony and Tanya created a space that was a noticeable departure from the traditional bottle-shop layout. The building’s shell offers space for a larger operation compared to Red Hill’s poky nook, with signage by Emery Greer of Thirsty Merchants, a centralised glasshouse-like cold room with ample fridge space, a tasting table and a large counter in the middle of the space shaking up the traditional bottle-shop aesthetic.

Much like the Red Hill location, Craft Wine Store at Coorparoo liaises directly with distilleries, breweries and wineries to source it’s impressive range. Each label has been tested and tasted by the team before even being considered worthy to stock – meaning that if a bottle can be seen on the shelves, it’s been vouched for. New stock is constantly arriving, including numerous Brisbane firsts and labels exclusive to Craft Wine Store. Knowledgeable staff are on hand to guide curious customers through the extensive range of minimal-intervention wines, small-grower champagnes, independent beers and craft spirits, with regular tastings taking place on-site from week to week, typically alternating with Red Hill. The coming months will see Craft Wine Store’s on-site carpark activated for monthly events, including barbecues, food truck takeovers and product showcases.

Craft Wine Store Coorparoo is now open. If you’re keen to visit, find out all the important details in our Stumble Guide.
