Dicki’s adds a dash of wholesomeness to New Farm with its vegan-centric eats

Have you heard the good word about plant-based dining? Don’t worry – we’re not here to talk your ear off about the virtues of eating your fruit and vegetables, especially since the minds behind Dicki’s are more than happy to show you in person. New Farm’s newest cafe is dishing up fare with a flavoursome and nourishing focus – with the added bonus of being totally vegan friendly. Omnivores of all shapes and sizes are encouraged to check it out – your body and soul will be singing afterwards.

Whether it’s Mary J. Blige’s timeless classic or stunning neighbourhood cafes, we’re all for a good family affair. Dicki’s in New Farm is the brainchild of the Zulueta siblings – Justine, Lexi, Choy and Diana – who have pooled their considerable hospitality know-how and debuted Brisbane’s newest vegan-centric cafe. Named for and inspired by their father (who himself led a plant-based lifestyle), the Dicki’s crew decided to opt for a vegan offering to showcase how eating healthy can improve quality of living. It wasn’t long after the family unit decided to join forces that the cosy space that once housed Pablo became available, after which it was all hands on deck to convert the space into something that gave off a welcoming, wholesome atmosphere. After some debate amongst the siblings about the aesthetic direction, the group compromised and honed in on a clean, bright, stylish and minimalist fit-out that maximised space. Then, #famgoals accomplished, the group linked up with Woodsters and Standing By to help make it a reality.

After the pieces were put in place, it was time to fashion a menu that would showcase the possibilities of plant-based cuisine. A selection of family faves was assembled – bridging the gap between purely delicious and healthy, with some certified banger dishes planned. The list of recipes was delivered to chef Jacob Hayward, who is now responsible for working the magic in the kitchen and plating up the likes of Dicki’s breakfast burrito with spiced rice, crumbed tofu and black beans, the buckwheat waffles with caramelised banana and vanilla bean ice-cream, the tofu scramble with garlic and thyme mushrooms, crispy tofu baos and the grilled corncakes with guacamole, pico de gallo and coriander pesto. Expect the menu to change seasonally as different types of produce enter their primes. Dicki’s has teamed up with Bear Bones Specialty Coffee to create a signature blend – called the Alt Blend – that pairs sublimely with Dicki’s almond, soy and coconut milk alternatives. The drinks menu is finished with matcha and turmeric lattes, smoothies, freshly squeezed orange juice and craft sodas.

Consider ditching the eggs bene and the bacon in favour of Dicki’s wholesome fare. You can find the details you need in the Stumble Guide.

The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Brisbane dining guide with more than 2400 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
